          Y3 Camp

Due to the Covid-19 situation that we find ourselves in, and further to the Olympus update from Mr Dave Baker, we have made the decision to postpone the Year 3 camp this year.

This will now take place as a combined Year 3 and year 4 camp in the next academic year.  It will now take place on Thursday 20th and Friday 21st May 2021.

          Duke of Edinburgh Award

As a result of the lockdown situation and the problems that social distancing presents for running trips, our Silver and Bronze DofE expeditions for students currently in Year 10 have been cancelled. Participants should continue to complete their other sections as they have several years left to complete the expedition itself. We will be in touch regarding refunds for the expeditions in due course. Dynamic Adventures, who run our Gold award, are continuing to follow government advice and the Practice and Assessed Expeditions are postponed, with new dates yet to be confirmed. Should you have any questions, please get in touch with our DofE Manager, Ed Westley (ed.westley@bradleystokecs.org.uk).

          Paris/Boulogne Trips

Due to the Covid-19 situation that we find ourselves in, and further to the Olympus update from Mr Dave Baker, the decision is to cancel the residential trips to Paris and Boulougne planned for this year.

We are currently in the process of claiming through the insurance policies. We will contact you as soon as we have more information.

           Reschedulued Dortmund/Berlin Trips

A further decision has been made to cancel the rescheduled trips to Berlin and Dortmund.  We are currently going through the process of claiming through the relevant insurance companies for reimbursement.  We will keep you informed when we receive more details.  Thank you for your continued patience at this time.

Further to some parents querying why it has been decided to cancel the Dortmund trip we are writing to you to clarify our reasons.  It has been a difficult decision to cancel the Dortmund trip especially as we had deferred it to next Easter.

The issue is that the insurance companies are only agreeing to cover trips this year due to the exceptional circumstances that we find ourselves in facing the COVID-19 pandemic. This cover may not extend until next year and if we defer the trip and then still have to cancel,  the insurance may not pay out.

We do not want to take that risk and therefore have had to make the decision to cancel the trip now and start the insurance claim process.

          Work Experience

Unfortunately we have had to make the very difficult decision to cancel Work Experience for all students this year. A significant number of employers have already withdrawn their offer of placements for work experience, for totally understandable reasons, and we know that it is likely that many others will feel unable to accommodate student placements after the disruption of lockdown.

In addition to this we have to bear in mind the amount of learning time that has been lost for students and so, if school does open before September, we feel the focus will need to be on re-establishing routines rather than being out of school.

I will be contacting all employers that have offered placements to thank them for their support and to explain why we have made this decision.

I would encourage students that are still keen to undertake some work experience to explore the opportunity of doing a placement after their exams are over next summer.

          Kind Regards
